After taking castor oil at pm I had a few strong contractions, but they went away. We ate dinner and they started coming back a little stronger and a little more frequent. My water broke at pm on Wednesday night. It was pretty much just like in the movies as we were all rushing around getting everything loaded in the van.

We got to the birth center around 8:30 and got all checked in and set up. Unfortunately, my contractions spaced out after my water broke. We listened to my awesome labor playlist and just kind of hung out. We spent the night alternating between sleep and being up and moving around. While I rested, I would listen to my Hypnobabies tracks which really helped me get through my contractions. In the morning we decided to take another dose of castor oil. I threw it up within an hour, so I had to take it again. I had a chiropractor appointment next door at 10 so I finished my castor oil smoothie and headed over. Around this time labor really started to pick up. I got adjusted and headed back to the birth center.

By the time I got back things were getting much more intense. Somewhere during this time my midwife checked me, I was 6 cm which was progress from the 3 cm I had been the day before. It’s all a little muddy in my brain though and I think someone checked me in the middle of the night and I was 4cm but I can’t remember. Soon after I was checked I got into the tub.

It was such a huge relief to sit in the warm water. The rest is all blurry, but I labored in the tub for a few hours got out a few times and got back in.

I started pushing and the first thought I had was he’s big and I was going to have to work really hard to get him out. I wasn’t wrong. I pushed for what seemed like forever and reached down and helped to catch my baby. I pulled him up to my chest and the rest is history.

I labored for 18 hours, 5 active labor, and 45 minutes of pushing. Asher was by far my biggest baby weighing in at 9 lbs 10 oz and was 22 ½ inches long.

He was a full 2 lbs heavier than my older boys were at birth. My birth team was so amazing. Everyone took such good care of me and my family. I’m so thankful for each of them!
