Midwifery care offers unique benefits to women and their families. Our nurse-midwives understand that pregnancy and birth are normal, natural processes rather than medical events. Therefore, we know that for most women a low to no intervention pregnancy and birth will have the best outcomes. At Sacred Roots, you will receive care that is highly personalized, time intensive, and evidenced based.
Prenatal care is the development of a relationship between the woman and her midwife. We love to get to know you, your significant other, your children, and other support persons who will be present at your birth. Each visit allows a minimum of 30 minutes of one on one time with the midwife.
The initial visit will take a bit longer. We will review your health and maternity history, your wellness goals for pregnancy, and your birth plan. We will talk about taking excellent care of yourself, your baby, and your family during pregnancy. A complete physical exam will be done.
At every visit you will have talk time with your midwife: general wellbeing, nutrition and lifestyle, discomforts of pregnancy, preparation for labor and birth, and time to answer any questions. Recommended lab tests or other procedures will be discussed in full. Each visit includes a clinical exam: blood pressure reading, weight, abdominal exam, and fetal heart tones.
When labor starts, our labor and birth team will greet you at the birth center and assess the wellbeing of both mother and baby. We will integrate our care (mother’s vital signs and labor progress, baby’s heart rate and position) into your labor process with as little disturbance as possible. Our goal is to foster a comfortable environment providing support throughout your labor, birth, and for several hours afterwards. We are respectful and responsive to you, your family, and your baby. Immediate postpartum care after your birth.
Nurturing care for your postpartum period includes one home visit within the first few days, office visits at one week and six weeks. Care for your precious newborn after birth: thorough newborn examination, state required newborn screening, initial well baby care, and breastfeeding support.
Support for your unique breastfeeding relationship. Establishing a good latch, how to tell if baby is getting enough, pumping and storing milk for going back to work, baby-led weaning. Our midwives and nursing team are skilled at supporting your breastfeeding relationship.
